The Celebration of 3 Kings Day in Benalmadena, Malaga

3 Kings

With so many celebrations and holidays to celebrate here in Spain it is never a bad time to visit the resort of Benalmadena and the MAC Hotel Puerto Marina. Even though this wonderful 4-star hotel doesn’t reopen until the 31st of January 2019 we wanted to inform you more about the fascinating and traditional celebration of the Three Kings Day. You may be used to Father Christmas or Santa Claus and waking up on the 25th of December to all those wonderful traditions like stockings and presents under the tree but here in Spain, though Christmas day has also become widely celebrated, the day of The Three Kings is still the most important day of the festive season.

The origins of the Twelfth Night go back to ancient times as it the day in which the days  started getting lighter and brighter after the winter solstice of the 25th of December. This day is a day of celebration where a parade takes place in each of the major towns and cities. Known as the Cabalgata de Reyes this parade takes place on the evening of the 5th of January and with it comes 12 tons of sweets which are thrown everywhere from the floats and cars. Benalmadena itself also has its own parade which usually begins as the Three Kings arrive at the Marina near our hotel in Benalmadena, where they are met by the mayor which initiates the start of the two parades: one which takes place in the town and the other in Arrroyo de la Miel.

The parade throughout the town takes the route from the fairground, through the main streets until it reaches Avenida Juan Luis Peralta where the families will be able to enjoy the climax to the parade and to the Spanish holidays.

The parade that takes place in Arroyo de la Miel leaves from the carpark of Tivoli World, the excellent amusement park and perfect family day out, and makes its way through the centre of Arroyo and finishes at the Avenida de la Estacion. So take your choice of parades and whatever you do bring a bag to take home some sweets with you.

Although here at MAC Hotels we are sadly not opening our doors until the 1st of February there are many more reasons to celebrate here on the Costa del Sol starting with our wonderful early booking discounts. If you book your 2019 holiday today you will receive a 15% discount meaning you will be able to unwind in the new Spa Facility for less and use more of your holiday spending money on that delicious local cuisine or bring home a few more unique souvenirs from Malaga for those most important to you.
