Carnival Malaga

There is never a bad time to visit the Costa del Sol, thanks to a plethora of activities and stunning sights for you to see, mixed with the nearly perfect climate you find here on the south coast of Spain. However at the end of February and beginning of March you will be able to experience one of the major celebrations in Spain in the form of Carnival. Here at the Hotel MAC Puerto Marina we wanted to provide you with the ultimate guide to the celebration in Malaga and what to expect from your hotel in Benalmadena.

Exactly 47 days before Easter and just before Lent, marks the beginning of Carnival, meaning that this year you can see the grand opening on the 23rd of February but since Carnival takes place over 10 days the array of fascinating festivities seems endless. Not only will you be able to see a host of parades, masquerades, street performances, competitions and parties but you will also be able to explore Benalmadena in winter and see another side to the Malaga region. During these months a whole new world of winter activities opens up that perhaps the high temperatures of the summer months don’t always permit, such as; hiking routes, golf or simply exploring the picturesque inland towns.

If you are here to experience Carnival in Benalmadena to its fullest then book your stay with MAC Hotels in our 4-star hotel and head towards Arroyo de la Miel for the spectacular performance of the Drag Queen Gala in Plaza de la Mezquita. A ‘must see’ event in the Carnival calendar! The following 10 days are full of colour, celebrations, flamboyant costumes, tradition and good food. Alternatively you can experience Carnival on a larger scale just a matter of a few miles away here in the capital city – Malaga. Here in Malaga you must not miss the the final day (3rd of March) of celebrations which sees the traditional entierro del boquerón, translated as the burial of the anchovy. This bizarre sounding tradition involves a large ‘anchovy’ being carried from the Plaza de la Constitución to the Malagueta beach, where it is burned at the shore to the accompaniment of fireworks and fun. This giant satirical fish effigy tends to be inspired by notable events that have taken place the previous year.

So treat yourselves to the experience of Carnival in Spain, book your holiday in Benalmadena and prepare for a holiday like no other. This wonderful holiday destination is just made even more unique by these joyfully exuberant celebrations and traditions and if you are in need of some rest and relaxation, you can be one of the first to de-stress and enjoy our newest addition, the wonderful spa facility. So book now through our official website and see what all the fuss is about in the best possible way.
